Objection by Objection: The Script That Keeps You on the Phone
An objection isn’t a “no” — it’s where the sale starts. A look inside the Agency Engineer sales script: how our agents overcome objections, stay on the phone, and earn the business.
For independent insurance agents · ~6 min read · Sales & Closing
Most agents don’t lose deals at the close. They lose them the second a prospect says “just send me the info” — and they say “sure,” hang up, and email a quote into a black hole. That deal is gone, not because the agent couldn’t help, but because they let the prospect off the phone on the first objection.
At Agency Engineer we train the opposite instinct: an objection is a buying signal — the person is still on the line, still thinking about it. Your job is to stay in the conversation and lead them to a decision. Below is a look inside how our agents run it, with a few of the exact rebuttals from our scripts. (The full word-for-word Medicare and Life playbooks come with the platform.)
Why an Objection Is a Buying Signal
“Too expensive.” “I already have coverage.” “Let me think about it.” Every one of those is a person still on the phone with you, telling you exactly what stands between them and a decision. Weak agents hear an objection and reach for the exit. Strong agents lean in — because now they know what to solve.
The rule we run by: you always have one more response. Every rebuttal in our script ends with a question or a next step, never a statement that lets the call die. Stay warm, stay professional, and stay on the phone until you’ve earned a real yes — or a real, specific no.
The 4-Stage Call Our Agents Run
Closing isn’t one magic line at the end — it’s a call you run on purpose. Here’s the shape of it:
1. The opener — earn the next five minutes
Identify yourself, note the recorded line (required), set an educational frame, then ask a question instead of pitching. For example: “Hi [Name], this is [Your Name], a licensed agent on a recorded line — I’m reaching out about the Medicare options you requested. Quick question: are you turning 65 in the next 6–12 months, or already eligible?” Open with a question and you’ve got a conversation; open with a pitch and you’ve got “not interested.”
2. Discovery — qualify hard, get them invested
Every answer is a small commitment that makes walking away feel like wasted effort. Gather the essentials (for Medicare: zip, effective date, doctors, prescriptions, current plan) and then ask the question that anchors everything: “What are you hoping to walk away with from our conversation?”
⚡ Compliance is non-negotiable
Persistence lives inside the rules. State the recorded line, complete the Medicare Scope of Appointment 48 hours ahead, never misrepresent a plan, and honor any do-not-call or firm stop. Staying compliant is how you stay in business long enough to close.
3. Present — get them on Zoom, side by side
People buy what they can see. “Let’s hop on Zoom so I can show you a few options side-by-side” turns an abstract quote into a clear, visual decision — which is where trust and the close get built.
4. Close — ask, and don’t flinch
After a strong presentation, don’t go quiet and hope. Ask, based on their own words: “Based on everything you’ve told me, do you feel you have enough information to make a decision?” If they hesitate: “What would make you feel more confident about moving forward today?” A “not yet” isn’t the end — it’s where the objection playbook begins.
A Few Rebuttals From the Playbook
Here’s the pattern that separates producers from order-takers: every rebuttal keeps the prospect talking instead of ending the call. A taste, straight from the Agency Engineer scripts:
| They say… | Weak agents… | What we say |
|---|---|---|
| “Just send me info.” | Email a quote, hang up. | “Absolutely — can I confirm a few details so what I send is actually useful?” |
| “Too expensive.” | Drop the price or quit. | “Let’s find something that actually fits your goals and your budget — that’s our job.” |
| “Let me think about it.” | “Okay, bye.” | “Of course — when would be a better time to revisit it?” |
See the pattern? Every rebuttal ends with a question. A question keeps the ball in play; a statement ends the rally. You’re not steamrolling anyone — you’re staying curious and refusing to accept the first “no” as the final answer.

Where Agents Give the Deal Away
- They take the first “no” at face value instead of treating it as a question to answer.
- They have no rebuttal ready, so silence does the quitting for them.
- They pitch before they discover, so the real objection is “I don’t see why this matters to me.”
- They let the prospect off the phone — a “let me think about it” with no set next step is a lost deal.
None of these are talent problems. They’re system problems — which is good news, because systems (and scripts) are exactly what we hand you.
